Lichfield to Buxton and Edale

50aJoin Transport for Britain on Sunday 18th July 2021 for a day out by special charter train to Buxton from Lichfield calling at Edale*.

The train chartered by Transport for Britain is to raise awareness and support for plans to reopen the railway-line between Lichfield and Burton to regular passenger trains and, for the construction of a new station at Alrewas serving the village and the National Memorial Arboretum.

The train will be made-up of vintage 1980s rolling stock** and will run from Lichfield to the beautiful spa town of Buxton via the Hope Valley calling at Edale. Passenger will enjoy travelling in style and have the opportunity to either explore Edale and the surrounding area of the Peak National Park, or soak up the atmosphere in one of Britains foremost Georgian spa towns. Visit the Pavilion Gardens, perhaps take in the Buxton Crescent Heritage Centre, or while-a-way the hours in one of Buxton’s many tea rooms, bars and restaurants – the choice is yours! 

The train will depart Lichfield City Station at 10.30 and Lichfield Trent Valley at 10.37 arriving at Edale at 12.14 and Buxton at 13.23. The return journey will depart Buxton at 17.10, stopping at Edale at 18.10 and returning to Lichfield City at 19.22 and Trent Valley at 20.15 Refreshments and toilets will be available on the train.

* The prevailing Government COVID conditions on rail travel will apply. In the event that COVID restrictions prevent Transport for Britain Ltd running the special charter service on Sunday 18th July2021, the event will be rescheduled to a later date. Please see Terms and Conditions below.

** You will be travelling in style in vintage British Rail Mk3 passenger carriages introduced to compete with the comfort offered by domestic air travel and first introduced in 1976. The carriages will be pulled by a Class 57 diesel locomotive.

***Terms and Conditions: If the event needs to be rescheduled to a later date due to COVID or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of Transport for Britain all tickets will be carried forward to the new date. If ticket holders are unable to attend on the new date a full refund can be claimed by e-mailing A request for refund for any other reason will be at the sole discretion of Transport for Britain and will be treated on a case by case basis in exceptional circumstances only.
